Kubus Photo Service is moving. After 32 years on Nassau Avenue in Greenpoint, our lab is relocating to a much bigger home at 630 Metropolitan Ave in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We're not going far: it's about a 15-minute walk down Leonard Street, or one stop on the G train. Our anticipated reopening date is Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Moving a business that has been rooted on the same block for over three decades is a challenge. This has been one of the most overwhelming projects I've ever taken on: months of renovation, permits, and learning everything that goes into opening a new retail space in New York. I'm sad to close such a significant chapter of Kubus Photo's life, and at the same time I can't wait to share the next one with you.

If you're a customer of ours, here's everything you need to know about the schedule.

The Moving Schedule

DateWhat's happening
Monday, Oct 5Last regular day. Drop-offs, orders, and pickups as usual.
Tuesday, Oct 6Pickups + retail only. Open for order pickups and sales of film and other products. No new orders and no passport photos.
Wed, Oct 7 – Mon, Oct 12Closed to the public. No transactions of any kind, no pickups, no passport photos. Doors closed.
Tuesday, Oct 13Anticipated reopening at 630 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211.

Why we stopped taking new orders on October 6

From October 6 through the 8th, our goal is to bring our turnaround queue down to zero, so every roll in the lab is developed, scanned, and delivered before we move. If you get a scan delivery email at 4:00 in the morning, that's us working overnight to get it done.

Please don't knock during the closure

From October 7 until we reopen, our doors are closed with no exceptions. Our staff will be inside, but we're packing: equipment is disconnected and chemistry is drained, so there is nothing we can do to help in person. Thank you for bearing with us while we get everything over to the new space safely.

What the Move Means for Your Orders

Mail-in orders: You can still place mail-in orders online. Rolls that arrive during the move will be processed once we reopen, so expect turnaround to take longer than our usual 4-5 business days.

Rush processing: Rush is paused for orders submitted through Tuesday, October 13. It resumes on Wednesday, October 14.

Online print orders: Print orders submitted through Tuesday, October 13 will be ready for pickup no earlier than Wednesday, October 14, at our new location. Order prints online.

Passport photos: No passport photos from October 6 through 12. Walk-in passport photos resume when we reopen.

How to Get to 630 Metropolitan Ave

We were on Nassau Ave at Leonard St. Our new home is just down the road:

  • Walk: About 15 minutes. Take Leonard St straight down to Metropolitan Ave, make a quick right, and we're 3 buildings from the corner.
  • Subway: One stop on the G from Nassau Av to Metropolitan Av / Lorimer St. We're just down the block from the G and L station.
  • Bus: The B48, about 6 stops (around 11 minutes).
  • Bike: About a 5-minute ride.

Full details, hours, and a map are on our contact page.

Bigger Lab. Bigger Plans.

Our new space is about five times larger than the shop we've called home, and that unlocks a lot of new possibilities. Here's what we're building in the months ahead:

  1. A 5-set rental studio. A photo studio downstairs with at least five distinct sets under one roof, available to rent by the hour. We're hoping to open it by the end of the year.
  2. Portrait sessions. Headshots, family portraits, and more, shot in our studio.
  3. Print big. We now have a Canon imagePROGRAF large format printer, so we can print up to 44 inches wide and as long as your wall space allows.
  4. Faster passport photos. Our passport system is getting a complete makeover with a new camera, a new printer, and a new workflow, bringing print time from about three minutes after you approve your photo down to roughly 25 seconds.
  5. Your own gallery. User accounts with online galleries for your film scans.
  6. More film. More wall space in the lobby means a wider selection of film stocks, including more unique emulsions.

Greenpoint, It's Been Real

To Greenpoint: thank you for 32 beautiful years. On to the next chapter. We're only a short walk away, and we hope to see all of you at 630 Metropolitan Ave.

Dziękujemy!
